Hari Jumaat

The Aadaab of Jumu'ah

1 . Every Muslim should make preparations for jumu'ah from Thursday. After the Asr solah of Thursday, he should make a lot of istighfaar. He should clean his clothes and keep them ready. If he does not have any perfume in his house, then if it is possible he should try and obtain some and keep it ready so that he will not get distracted with these things on jumu'ah. The pious people of the past have stated that the person to receive the most benefit on Friday will be that person who waits for it and who makes preparations for it from Thursday. The most unfortunate person will be he who does not even know as to when Friday will fall, so much so that he will ask the people in the morning as to which day this is. Some pious people used to go and stay in the jaami' masjid from the night of jumu'ah in order to make full preparations for the following day. (Ihya aul-Uloom, vol. 1, page 161)

2 . On the day of jumu'ah, one should take a sunnat bath and wash the hair of the head and the rest of the body  thoroughly . It is also very virtuous to use the miswaak on this day.

3 . After taking the sunnat bath, a person should wear the best clothing that he possesses, and if possible he should also apply some perfume. He should also clip his nails.

4 . He should try and go very early to the jaami' masjid. The earlier a person goes, the more reward he will receive. Rasulullah (Allah bless him & give him peace) said: "On the day of jumu'ah, the angels stand at the entrance of that masjid in which jumu'ah solah is to be offered. They write down the name of the person who enters the masjid first, and thereafter the name of the person who follows, and they continue doing this . The person who entered first will receive the reward of sacrificing a camel in the path of Allah, the one who followed him will get the reward of sacrificing a cow, thereafter a chicken, thereafter the reward of giving an egg as charity in the path of Allah. Once the khutbah commences, the angels close the register and begin listening to the khutbah. " (Bukhari and Muslim)

In olden times, the roads and alleys used to be extremely busy in the mornings and at fajr time . All the people used to go so early to the jaami' masjid and there used to be such a large crowd that it used to look like the days of Eid . Later, when this habit was given up, people began saying that this is the first innovation in Islam . After writing this, Imam Ghazali rahmatullahialayh says: "Aren't the Muslims ashamed of themselves that the Jews and Christians go so early in the morning to their synagogues and churches on Saturdays and Sundays. Those who are businessmen go so early to the bazaars in order to do their buying and selling . Why don't the Muslims do the same?" The reality of the situation is that the Muslims have totally reduced the value of this blessed day. They do not even know what day this is, and what a high status it has. How sad it is that the day which was more valuable than Eid in the eyes of Muslims of the past, which Rasulullah (Allah bless him & give him peace) was proud of and the day which was not granted to the previous nations has become so dishonoured at the hands of Muslims today and it is such a great ingratitude to the favour of Allah Ta'ala that the consequence of all this can be seen with our very eyes. "

5 . By going walking for the jumu'ah salaat, one gets the reward of fasting for one year for every step that he takes. (Tirmidhi)

6 . On Fridays, Rasulullah (Allah bless him & give him peace) used to recite Surah Alif Laam Meem Sajdah and Surah Hal Ataa, in the fajr salaat . These Surahs should therefore be occasionally recited in the fajr solah on Fridays . Occasionally they should be left out so that people do not regard their recitation as wajib.

7 . For the jumu'ah salaat, Rasulullah (Allah bless him & give him peace) used to recite the following Surahs: al-Jumu'ah and al-Munaafiqun, or al-A'la and al-Ghaashiyah .

8 . There is a lot of reward in reciting Surah Kahf either before the jumu'ah solah or after it. Rasulullah (Allah bless him & give him peace) said: "The person who recites Surah Kahf on Fridays, a nur will appear for him from below the Arsh (throne of Allah) as high as the skies. This light will help him in the darkness of the day of resurrection . And all the sins which he may have committed from the last Friday till this Friday will be forgiven . "
(Sharh Sifrus-Sa'aadah)

The ulama have written that this Hadith refers to minor sins because major sins are not forgiven without making taubah.

9 . There is more reward in reciting durood (selawat) on Fridays than on other days . It has been mentioned in the Hadith that (selawat) should be recited abundantly on Fridays .

May Allah guide us all to value this auspicious day truly, Amin...

Famous Non Muslims Comments On The Qur'aan

Goethe – a famous German poet - whenever I read the Quraan – I feel some thing is shaken my spirit -

Arnest rinan – Quran is authentic – and no modification or changing occurred to this book, and whenever you listen to the Quraan, it makes you shiver – and when you study the laws which come in this Quraan – you will respect it more and more.

Leo Tolstoy – a famous Russian thinker - after I have read the Quraan, I realized that all what humanity needs is this heavenly law.

Leo Tolstoy - the legislation of Quran will spread all over the world, because it agrees with the mind, logic and wisdom.

Michael hart - there is no book in history that is complete with its entire letters without any modifications but quran.

Jaims Jenz - the astronomical scientist says - I bear witness quran is an inspired book from god

Professor Irene berg – the professor at the Oslo university – no doubt Quraan is truly from almighty god and that Muhammad is truly a messenger from god..

Dr. Maurice Bucaille – It is impossible that Muhammad, peace be upon him, authored the Qur'an. How could a man, from being illiterate, become the most important author, in terms of literary merits, in the whole of Arabic literature?
How could he then pronounce truths of a scientific nature that no other human-being could possibly have developed at that time, an all this without once making the slightest error in his pronouncement on the subject?"

The Japanese professor Yoshido Kozan - who is the chief of Tokyo planetarium says – I don’t find any difficulties in accepting quran as a true word of god – because - the explanation of the growth of the feats in the WOMB of his mother which quran gives 14 hundred years ago – is typically what the science knew recently.

Prof. Yoshihide Kozai- “I am very much impressed by finding true astronomical facts in Quran."

Carl marks – every man who have a mind – should really confess that Muhammad is messenger from god..

Prof. Alfred Kroner 1 -  "It is impossible [Muhammad] could have known about the common origin of the universe, scientists only found this out in the last few years using complicated and advanced techology"

The French philosopher and writer Voltaire – he says if a person who don’t believe in god had o choose between Quraan and other bibles he will choose quran – for it agrees with the ..Albert Einstein – the quran is not a mathematic book – it’s a book which contains laws for the guidance of mankind to the right path –to the guidance which the philosophical theories could not bring it.

Do'ful Imaan - Weakness of Faith

Bismlillaahirrahmanirrahim

by Sheikh Muhammed Salih Al-Munajjid
The phenomenon of weak faith has become very widespread among Muslims, and many people complain about the hardness of their hearts. So often we hear the words,

“I feel hardness in my heart”
“I do not find any joy in worship”
“I feel that my faith has hit rock bottom”
“Reading Qur’aan does not move me”
“I fall into sin so easily”

The effects of this affliction can be seen in many people, and this problem is the cause of every disaster and adversity.

The issue of people’s hearts is an important and sensitive issue. The heart is called Qalb in Arabic because it changes so quickly and frequently (Taqallub – alteration, variation, ups and downs). The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “The heart (Qalb) takes its name from its constant changes (Taqallub). The likeness of the heart is that of a feather at the root of a tree, being turned over and over by the wind.”
(Reported by Ahmad in Saheeh al-Jaami’)

According to another report: “The likeness of the heart is that of a feather in an empty plot of land, being blown over and over by the wind.” (Reported by Ibn Abi ‘Aasim in Kitaab al-Sunnah)

Man’s heart changes constantly, as the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) described: “The heart of the son of Adam changes more quickly than a pan of rapidly boiling water.” (Ibid no. 226). According to another report: “It changes more than a pot of rapidly boiling water.” (Reported by Ahmad, Saheeh al-Jaami’)

Allaah is the One Who turns hearts around and controls them. ‘Abd-Allaah ibn ‘Amr ibn al-‘Aas reported that he heard the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) say: “The hearts of the children of Adam are as one between the fingers of the Most Merciful, and He turns them in whatever way He wills.” Then he said: “O Allaah, Controller of the hearts, direct our hearts to obey You.” (Reported by Muslim, no. 2654).
Allaah tells us that: “… Allaah comes in between a person and his heart (i.e., He prevents an evil person from deciding anything)…” [al-Anfaal 8:24 – interpretation of the meaning] no one will be saved on the Day of Resurrection “except him who brings to Allaah a clean heart [free from shirk and hypocrisy].” [al-Shu’ara’ 26:89 – interpretation of the meaning] “those whose hearts are hardened” [al-Hajj 22:53 – interpretation of the meaning] are doomed and the promise of Paradise is for those “who feared the Most Beneficent (Allaah) in the Unseen, (i.e. in the worldly life, before seeing and meeting Him), and brought a heart turned in repentance (to Him).” [Qaaf 50:33 – interpretation of the meaning].

So the believer must check his heart, find out the nature and cause of the problem, and start treating it straight away, before it overwhelms him and destroys him. The matter is of the utmost seriousness, for Allaah has warned us against the heart that is hardened, closed, sick, blind and sealed.

I ask Allaah to benefit me and my Muslim brothers and sisters, for He is the One Whom we ask to soften our hearts and guide us. He is our Protector, He is sufficient for us and He is the Best Disposer of affairs.

The Need for the Knowledge of Deen

By
Dr. Mohammed Sadiq

There is a tendency among the western educated Muslims, who have not had an
opportunity or have not made any serious efforts to acquire knowledge about their
faith, to blame 'Ulama squarely for everything.

There are various schools of thought and theories, right and wrong, in all fields of
knowledge. We take the responsibility to study these theories, weigh them against
our knowledge base of the entire field and determine what exactly the theory
propagates, and what is the intent and goals of the theorist. But, when it comes to
our faith, we are handicapped due to a lack of knowledge to follow this same
process.

Most of us have not put a serious effort in learning even the basics of our faith -
what is the purpose and ultimate goal of it, why do have to follow it, what is
the purpose of sending prophets and revealing upon them the scriptures, what is
the purpose of our life here, how are we to utilize the guidance that we received
from the holy Book through the life of the Prophet (peace be upon him) and
through his Companions and followers, what is the purpose of Shari'ah, how many
aspects of faith there are, etc. etc.

Those of us who, after finishing our 'degrees', find it unavoidable to acquire some
knowledge of deen, tend to make very superficial attempts at it, such as, acquiring
information about it through the internet (which, by the way, is the most
dangerous place to learn about Islam), or through reading the translations of the
holy Qur'an (which again gets very confusing because each translation presents a
slightly different view of the true meaning of the holy Book), and through reading
translations of the book of Ahadith (and tell me how confusing that could be for an
untrained person in the knowledge of Hadith).

Armed with this superficial knowledge, we begin to discuss and argue about various
aspects of deen, which serves only to further confuse everyone involved.

Then, we look at 'Ulamas for answers. The fact is that in all areas of knowledge
there are professionals who are very good, very skilled and experienced, and who
possess a very deep and broad perspective of the field; and then there are those
who have taken their diplomas and degrees through correspondence and through
internet, or who have gone to a fast track programs to complete
their degrees.

The same thing is true for the 'Ulamas of today. When we need
doctors, lawyers, engineers, etc., we look for the ones who are properly qualified
and who possess broad knowledge, experience and skills in their field. But, when
we need 'Ulamas, we tend to look for the one who would give us the answer we are
looking for, without ever considering how did this person become and 'Aalim.

Obviously then, it becomes easily to blame all 'Ulama and make them the black
sheeps of our communities, rather than taking some personal responsibility to first
put some serious effort in learning proper deen from properly qualified teachers
and recognized institutions, or in the least make an effort to find the properly
qualified and experienced 'Ulama who possess the deep knowledge of all aspects of
the deen from a very broad perspective. But then again, we are handicapped in this
area too. How many of us truly know what are the proper qualifications for
an 'Aalim? Many of us would readily know what are the most famous universities in
the world in different areas of studies and specialties, but how many of us
honestly know what and where are some of the institutions who specialize in
training 'Ulama. How many of us know that the traditional and well-known course
of study for an 'Aalim takes seven full years of studies?

As I said, we must take our lack of knowledge in our faith very seriously and, as
Muslims, make a serious attempt to learn at least the fundamentals of our deen,
which, by the way, is obligatory on all Muslims. On the day of judgment, we won't
be held accountable for not having obtained any degrees in psychology, medicine,
etc., but we will be held accountable for failing to obtain the necessary and
required knowledge of our deen.

I pray to Allah (swt) to grant me and all of us the wisdom to recognize and
acknowledge our short-comings with respect to the knowledge of our faith, and to
make a sincere effort to acquire it.

The Importance and Etiquettes of Learning

Introduction:

  • What is a study circle and what is its purpose?
  • Some Qur’anic Verses & Hadith on the importance of knowledge.
  • The benefits of group study.
  • Some etiquettes of studying in a group.
  • How to gain maximum benefit from the circle.

The above are some of the topics that we shall be discussing in this weeks circle.

Circles: What & Why

  • A study circle is when a group of people gather to study or discuss issues or topics of interest to them.
  • Our purpose in setting up this circle is to study Islam together and to develop our understanding of our deen and improve our actions.
  • It is hoped that we can discuss and learn from each other and share our understanding together.
  • We also hope that this will increase our brotherhood and bring us closer together.
  • Our ultimate purpose (as with anything in life) is the pleasure of Allah.

Importance of Knowledge

Allah (SWT) says in his glorious book the Qur’an:

Can (such people be equal to) the one who worships during the hours of night, prostrating himself and standing, fearing the Hereafter and having hopes in his Lord’s mercy? Say, “Can those who know and those who do not know become equal?” It is only the people of understanding who are receptive of the advice.
[Qur’an, Surah 39: Verse 9 (Mufti Taqi Usmani Trans.)]

It is not (necessary) for all the believers to go forth.’; So, why should it not be that a group from every section of them goes forth, so that they may acquire perfect understanding of the Faith, and so that they may warn their people when they return to them, so that they may take due care (of the rules of SharÄ«‘ah).
[Qur’an, Surah 9: Verse 122 (Mufti Taqi Usmani Trans.)]

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:

“When Allah desires good for someone, He gives him correct understanding in the deen.”
[Bukhari and Muslim]

“Allah will make the path to the Paradise easy for anyone who travels a path in search of knowledge.”  [Muslim]

“There are no people who remember Allah without the angels surrounding them, mercy covering them, tranquillity descending on them, and Allah mentioning them to those who are with Him.”   [Muslim, at-Tirmidhi]

“When you come upon the meadows of the Garden, graze in them.” He was asked, “What are the meadows of the Garden?” “Circles of Dhikr,” he replied.  [at-Tirmidhi]

Benefits of Group Study:

  • Brings us closer together as brothers in Islam.
  • Allows us to share our knowledge, ideas and experience.
  • There are role models and people within the circle that we can look up to and learn from.
  • We are able to ask questions and discuss topics together as a group.
  • Allah’s Mercy descends on those who remember him in groups.
  • It can be a means of Da’wah whereby we call others to the deen.
  • And many more …

The Etiquettes of Studying in a Group:

  • Listen attentively and do not interrupt the speaker or speak while he is speaking.
  • Have humility towards the lessons and the knowledge that is being imparted to you.
  • When you hear a verse of the Qur’an, listen to is as if Allah is speaking directly to you at that moment.
  • When you hear a Hadith of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) listen to it as if he is speaking directly to you.
  • Bring a pen and paper. You will be surprised to find out how much you remember if you write it down as opposed to just listening.
  • Ask questions. We are all here to learn from each other and the best way of learning from one another is to ask questions.
  • Share your knowledge and bring your ideas to the table.
  • Do not use the circle as a platform for argumentation or debate.
  • Do not take back the knowledge and use it to criticize others who may not know or may not practice what you/we know.
  • Show respect to each other and treat others the way you would like to be treated.
How to gain maximum benefit:

  • Have the right intention as the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said that ‘Actions are according to their intentions …’. Our intention should be that we are here only to please Allah and to learn something about His deen.
  • Know that learning is a form of ‘Ibada (worship)
  • Make it your goal to learn something new every week, but to also share something with the group.
  • Take something back with you and try and put to practise the things that you learn.
  • Call others to the circle and gain the reward of everyone who attends because of your da’wah.
